Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about your care
New Patients & Appointments
Absolutely. We welcome new patients of all ages, from newborns and children through to adults, seniors, and expectant mothers. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, we will always do our best to offer an appointment as soon as possible. Appointments can be booked online, by phone, or by contacting our friendly reception team.
No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, which means you can book directly without a referral from your GP or another healthcare provider. However, if you are attending under an EPC (Enhanced Primary Care) or Chronic Disease Management Plan, a referral from your GP is required.
Your first appointment includes a detailed discussion about your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, and health goals. This is followed by a comprehensive examination to assess your posture, movement, spinal health, and overall function. Where clinically appropriate, treatment may be provided during your initial visit. We believe in taking the time to listen, explain our findings clearly, and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Comfortable clothing is recommended. Depending on the area being assessed, you may be asked to perform simple movement tests during your examination.
Every patient is unique. The number of treatments recommended will depend on your condition, health history, lifestyle, goals, and how long your symptoms have been present. Following your assessment, your chiropractor will discuss a personalised care plan and treatment recommendations with you.
Medicare, EPC, DVA & WorkCover WA
Yes. We welcome patients referred under an EPC (Enhanced Primary Care) or Chronic Disease Management Plan. If your GP has referred you under an eligible Medicare care plan, we can provide treatment under the allocated visits available through Medicare. Please bring your referral paperwork to your appointment.
Yes. We bulk bill eligible Medicare-funded consultations under approved EPC (Enhanced Primary Care) / Chronic Disease Management Plans and eligible DVA patients. If you are unsure whether you qualify, our team will be happy to assist.
Yes. We proudly support Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) patients. Eligible DVA Gold Card holders and approved White Card holders can receive chiropractic care with no out-of-pocket expenses when referred appropriately. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility, please contact our team.
Yes. We accept WorkCover WA patients. Please contact our clinic to arrange an appointment and discuss your referral and claim details.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care is commonly sought for back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, joint pain and stiffness, postural concerns, sports injuries, pregnancy-related discomfort, mobility and movement concerns, and general musculoskeletal health and wellbeing. Following a thorough assessment, we will discuss whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your individual needs.
Chiropractic care is widely recognised as a safe and effective healthcare profession when delivered by a qualified practitioner. At DUNN BAY Chiropractic & Integrative Medicine, every patient undergoes a comprehensive assessment before treatment recommendations are made. Your safety, comfort, and informed consent are always our priority.
Most patients find treatment comfortable and often experience a sense of relief following care. Depending on your condition and the techniques used, some mild soreness may occasionally occur afterwards, similar to what you might experience after exercise. This is generally temporary and resolves quickly.
Your health always comes first. If we determine that chiropractic care is not appropriate for your condition, we will discuss alternative options and, where necessary, refer you to the most appropriate healthcare professional for further assessment or treatment.
Pregnancy, Babies & Family Care
Yes. Chiropractic care can be a valuable part of supporting comfort and wellbeing throughout pregnancy. As the body undergoes significant physical changes, chiropractic care may help improve mobility, support pelvic balance, reduce musculoskeletal discomfort, and promote overall comfort during pregnancy.
Yes. We provide gentle, age-appropriate chiropractic care for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. Every assessment and treatment approach is tailored to a child's age, size, development, and individual needs.
Yes. Many older adults seek chiropractic care to support mobility, balance, joint function, posture, and overall quality of life. Treatment is always tailored to the individual's health status, comfort level, and personal goals.
Absolutely. We are proud to care for patients at every stage of life, from newborns and children through to adults, seniors, and growing families. Our family-centred approach ensures care is tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
Health Funds, HICAPS & Payments
Yes. We accept all major Australian private health funds and offer convenient on-the-spot claiming through HICAPS. The rebate you receive will depend on your level of cover and your individual health fund policy.
HICAPS (Health Industry Claims and Payments Service) allows eligible patients to claim their private health insurance rebate instantly at the time of payment. This means you only pay the remaining gap amount on the day, without needing to submit claims yourself.
No. At DUNN BAY Chiropractic & Integrative Medicine, we believe every patient deserves personalised, high-quality care based on their individual needs rather than health fund arrangements. Being independent allows us to focus on providing the most appropriate treatment recommendations while maintaining the highest standards of care.
We accept EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard, Cash, and HICAPS health fund payments. If you have any questions regarding payment options, please contact our team.
Referrals, Records & Second Opinions
Yes. If you have previously received chiropractic care or relevant medical imaging and reports, our team can assist you in obtaining these records where appropriate. Having access to previous records may help us better understand your health history and ensure continuity of care.
Yes. We are happy to provide professional second opinions regarding diagnoses, treatment recommendations, imaging findings, or management plans. Our goal is to provide clear, evidence-informed advice that helps you better understand your options and make informed healthcare decisions.
Absolutely. As part of our integrative approach to healthcare, we work collaboratively with GPs, specialists, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, massage therapists, and other healthcare providers when appropriate. If additional investigation or specialist care would benefit your health outcomes, we will discuss this with you and facilitate the necessary referral.
Health & Safety
Patient safety is our highest priority. We maintain strict infection prevention and hygiene protocols in accordance with Australian healthcare standards. These include thorough cleaning and disinfection of treatment areas, strict hand hygiene procedures, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, regular equipment sanitisation, and ongoing staff training in patient safety and infection control. Our commitment is to provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for every patient who visits our clinic.
Not necessarily. Many patients do not require imaging before receiving chiropractic care. Decisions regarding X-rays or other diagnostic imaging are based on your individual health history, examination findings, symptoms, and clinical presentation. If imaging is recommended, we will explain why and discuss the next steps with you.
Your health and safety are extremely important to us. We maintain detailed health records and carefully review any allergies, sensitivities, medications, medical conditions, or previous health concerns before commencing care. If you have allergies, sensitivities, are pregnant, or have any specific health concerns, please let our team know before your appointment so we can ensure your care is tailored appropriately.
